PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will decide on the coalition’s candidate for the post of deputy prime minister, says MIC deputy president M Saravanan.

Saravanan said the matter was discussed during a BN Supreme Council meeting, but added that there was no mention of any name as a potential candidate for the position, Berita Harian reported.

“We did discuss the matter but the candidate has not been determined. We’ll leave it to the chairman to decide as he has the mandate,” he was quoted as saying.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said two deputy prime minister posts will be created with the positions going to the other coalitions in the government bloc, namely BN and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
