TONGOD: Sensitive to the basic needs in rural areas, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sandakan monitored the delivery of 150 boxes of subsidised packet cooking oil and 50 bundles of sugar to several retail premises around Penangah, Saturday.
According to Sandakan KPDNHEP Branch Head, Azdy John, the delivery was carried out under the Sandakan Family Care Programme (PPKS).
“Through this programme, a total of 150 boxes of subsidised cooking oil packets equivalent to 2,250 kg and 50 bundles of sugar equivalent to 600 kg were successfully distributed by the Rural Development Cooperative in several retail premises around Penangah.
“Monitoring the supply of subsidised cooking oil packets to 10 retailers around Penangah who have a Scheduled Goods Retail License (CSA) that is still valid,” he said.
Azdy also explained that there was no panic buying among consumers such as long lines and scrambling when buying cooking oil.
“This situation occured because there is already confidence among consumers about the availability of cooking oil in Penangah.
“In addition, traders informed us that the supply of Sugar, Oil and Flour (GMT) were sold faster because the selling price was according to the price controlled by the government.
“The goals of KPDNHEP and PPKS have been achieved.
“The users in Kampung Penangah have enjoyed the benefits of subsidies from the government,” he said.
Meanwhile, KPDNHEP Sandakan Branch also helped traders in Kampung Penangah to apply for a CSA license to make it easier for them to get GMT supplies in the future.
