Kota Kinabalu: A TASK force under the Local Government and Housing Ministry will inspect People’s Housing Project (PPR) homes in the State and evict those found to be ineligible for the housing aid.State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said there are ineligible tenants living at such premises who attained them through dubious means. He was responding to Moyog Assemblyman Datuk Darell Leiking who asked him on such incidents happening at PPR Kibabaig, while many applications were rejected.  Some acquired such units through proxies. There are some who acquired up to two or three PPR units and put them up for rent. “It is true and we regret this. This does not happen in (PPR Kibabaig) only, but in other places, too.

“The PPR is only for the B40 or low-income group. I don’t know if some tenants work as drivers, but I have seen a Ninja King (Toyota Land Cruiser) parked outside (the PPR),” said Masidi. He said the task force would take strict action and direct ineligible tenants to vacate. “This is not a popular action. And I hope they will understand. Our intention is not to disrupt their lives, but to ensure that PPR goes to those who need it more,” he said. Masidi also requested elected representatives not to issue recommendation letters to their friends who ask for it. “Let it be for those who are truly eligible,” he said. To a supplementary question by Kepayan Assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang, Masidi said there are still technical issues to straighten out before the PPR Kibabaig can be fully handed over to Penampang District Council.

“The Ministry is just as eager for PPR Kibabaig to be (fully) used. It is among PPRs that is getting close attention because we want it handed over as soon as possible so those eligible can move in,” said Masidi. Additional works on PPR Kibabaig were expected to be completed by June this year, involving eight blocks totalling 760 units. It was also initially expected to be handed over from the Federal Housing and Local Government Ministry in June 2016.
