Hoarding goods: Stern action against Sandakan traders

SANDAKAN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sandakan Branch will take stern action against traders for hoarding basic necessities.

KPDNHEP Sandakan Branch Head, Azdy John, said legal action according to the Act would be imposed because such actions disrupt the stability of the supply of the goods to consumers.

In addition, he also said traders did not sell subsidised basic necessities, especially sugar, cooking oil and flour (GMT) above the price set by the government.

“Please do not hide supplies because when we find out, we will take stern action and do not sell these basic necessities beyond the price set by the government. That is our warning,” Azdy said when met while inspecting of the supply of necessities at Mydin Sandakan Hypermarket on Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, Azdy also confirmed that there was sufficient supply of essential goods for users in the Sandakan district for now.

“The supply of necessities for consumers in Sandakan is still at a satisfactory and sufficient level ahead of the Christmas season,” he added.

He also urged consumers to report to KPDNHEP Sandakan if they faced difficulties in getting supplies.

For the record, the Sandakan KPDNHEP managed to inspect 6,482 premises in urban areas and 2,317 premises in rural areas from January 1 to November 30 2022.

In addition, the value of KPDNHEP Sandakan’s seizure from January 1 to November 30 was RM4,180,998 while the value of the compound released was RM26,700. During the same period, the KPDNHEP Sandakan received 164 complaints.
