Kota Kinabalu: SPCA KK is partnering with Yayasan Hasanah to provide free neutering service to 2,688 stray dogs in two selected zones in Kota Kinabalu, namely, Inanam and Menggatal.
While SPCA KK has been consistent in sponsoring in the neutering of more than 10,000 animals since its inception 16 years ago, Yayasan Hasanah’s grant is a huge boost in redressing a situation that has plagued our society, it said in a statement.
It noted that uncontrolled breeding of strays and pet dogs have been a constant challenge to the city and district councils.
Members in both areas are urged to call the project line 011 3170 9660 to notify the location of strays and, where possible, to help in the trapping or capturing.
“We strongly urge the public in Inanam and Menggatal to grab this rare opportunity to stop the endless litters of homeless puppies.
“We invited members of the Sabah Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Sabah (SDVMA) to offer their neutering services as their contribution will be crucial to the project’s success,” it said.
It hoped also for the following:
- Public education on the benefits of neutering so that pets, unless licensed to breed, are also neutered. SPCA KK will continue to conduct awareness talks in line with the project.
- Councils to enforce by-laws against free roaming pet dogs.
- Relevant authorities to enforce the Sabah Animal Welfare Enactment 2015 to prevent the abandonment of puppies and grown dogs.
