‘Ensure these Sandakan squatters accommodated in PPR homes’
“The Ministry has provided me with input, and assured that those impacted will be accommodated in any available PPR lots,” said Calvin.
SANDAKAN: Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong believes that the Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) should have arranged a place to stay or People’s Housing Programme (PPR) lots for squatters residing behind the Mile 2 petrol kiosk who would be left homeless once the squatter settlement is demolished.“I have submitted my inquiry into the PPR application of those involved during the State Legislative Assembly sitting to the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.

“The Ministry has provided me with input, and assured that those impacted will be accommodated in any available PPR lots,” said Calvin.
“After launching a census of the squatter community, the MPS should first provide homes or PPR lots for those who will be affected by the demolition.

“Before sending notices to the squatters, especially citizens, those responsible for carrying out the demolition should find initiative to provide them homes,” he said. There are 109 squatter houses in total, he claimed, 89 of which belong to locals and the remaining ones to foreigners.

Additionally, he requests that the Ministry expedite those affected parties’ PPR applications and expresses the hope that their applications would be taken into consideration for any available PPR lots, regardless of how far away they are from their current location.
