TAWAU: Kalabakan Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy hopes Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would add a few Sabah MPs, especially from Sabah BN, to the Cabinet to make the Unity Government’s line-up appear more fair and inclusive. The addition of Sabah MPs in the Cabinet, according to the Kalabakan Umno Division Chief, is necessary given the size of the State and the fact that its development is well behind that of the Peninsula.
He said that in the newly revealed Cabinet line-up by Anwar, Sabah received just two ministerial posts, from Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
“The PM needs to consider offering Cabinet positions to MPs from the East Coast of Sabah, especially from BN,” he said, Sunday.
The two representatives from Sabah are from the West Coast of Sabah.
He said Kalabakan Umno agrees with the remarks made by Sabah BN Chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who expressed disappointment in the composition of the new Cabinet.
Andi said that the lack of Sabah BN MPs in the new Cabinet seemed to indicate that the Unity Government has marginalised the party.
He said Sabah BN was the first to formally commit to supporting Anwar-led PH in its efforts to form a government.
When the Sabah BN candidates won seven parliamentary seats in Sabah with a sizeable majority, they outperformed candidates from other parties.
“To balance the mix of Cabinet positions spanning the Peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak, the PM should consider choosing lawmakers from among the Sabah BN,” he said.
