Five Sabah swimmers to represent country at regional meet

Kota Kinabalu: Five Sabahan swimmers will be representing the country at the 44th South East Asia Age Group Swimming Championships to be held at the National Aquatic Centre, Kuala Lumpur from December 17-19.

National 100-metre freestyle record holder Loo Yie Bing together with Chu Xin Ying, Muhammad Yousoff, Emmanuel Loh and Laura Lee are among the 70 swimmers named by the Malaysia Swimming Federation.

Sabah Aquatic Sports Association (Sasa) Secretary Cynthia Chin in a statement released on Monday congratulated the swimmers for their achievements and wished the swimmers all the best in making the country and State proud.

She added that Sasa President Daniel Lee will also be attending the championship as technical official, and the inclusion of state coach Benjamin Lee as one of the coaching members in the team is the recognition of  his hard work and the task given  will be a valuable experience for him.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Ayron Shadwaz, Tiana Jezmine, Hannabelle Ho and Adrian Norman Ligadu led by State back-up coach Awang Sharuddin Manis participated in the  Junior Tiger Diving Talent Programme hosted by Malaysia Swimming Federation at the National Aquatic Centre from November 28- December 10.

Daniel said the programme was aimed at developing grassroots diving in the country and he expressed his appreciation to the Youth and Sports Ministry and Sabah sports Council for their  support over the years.

He said the mutual relationship had benefited the aquatic community enormously, and believes it will continue for the good of the sport.

He also revealed that a total of 46 divers will be taking part in the inaugural Sabah Novice Diving Competition 2022 organised by Sasa  at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex on December 10.

He said the two-day competition will serve as a platform for the growing number of grassroots divers to hone their skills.

In addition there will also be a two-day diving clinic on the introduction to diving judging and competition organising starting on December 8 co-organised by Sasa and the National Body.
