Kota Kinabalu: The National Reading Decade (DMK), a government initiative to enhance the success of reading among the public, is in accordance with the direction of the country with the goal of making Malaysia a reading country by 2030.
Khazanah Bestari Library, Sabah Federal Secretary’s Office, one of the government agents, was to provide development to support society’s intellect, economic activities as well as meeting cultural needs and recreation through the implementation of various activities with the local community.
In conjunction with the celebration of World Children’s Day, the Federal Secretary’s Office Sabah organised a visit to the Sabah State Library, Tg. Aru Branch.
This programme was a two-pronged approach to promote library services and celebrate loyal users of Khazanah Bestari Library among Kemas nursery and kindergartens, Sabah Federal Government Administration Complex.
During the event, 80 children accompanied by 13 teachers and 30 parents participated in the tour programme.
In the visit, Mrs. Nelly Green, Head of the State Library Branch Sabah Tg Aru Branch held a guided tour around the library. An interesting space to visit in the library was a multi-purpose hall, adult reference room, lending room for adults, youth room and children’s room.
The group was also taken on a tour of level two which was the main attraction for teenagers because it was equipped with a music studio and Petrosains Maker Studio for those who want to realise their imagination to something tangible through the Scientific approach, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The tour programme themed “Reading is Therapy” was organised by the Sabah Federal Secretary’s Office with cooperation of the Development Department Sabah State Society (Kemas), Kota Kinabalu Industrial Training Institute and Training Institute Ministry of Health Malaysia Kota Kinabalu.
According to the group’s leader, Francis Labi, the programme was to refresh the National Reading Decade campaign in addition to strengthening cooperation between the agencies involved.
