KENINGAU: The residents of Kampung Sondoton Baru hoped the flash floods faced by residents every time it rained could be resolved in the near future.

Assistant Minister of Works, Datuk Robert Tawik, said they would work together with the District Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to overcome the flash flood problem when the stream (river) overflowed when it rained.

He said the flash floods caused a lot of hardship to the residents and erosion to the river bank.

“Bank erosion causes the residents to worry and fear that they could face greater damage,” Robert said.

“When I was told by the Village Head Haji Kamidin Sirad about this problem I immediately went to inspect the condition of this stream together with the District DID Officer, Bernedina Pridin and several of his officers,” he said.

Robert said although the stream is small it causes concerns to the residents when flash flood occurs.

“It affects the mosque and villagers staying close to the river. It can cause erosion and the bank may collapse,” he added.

“I have discussed with the DID Officer and we have taken a decision to solve the problem in the near future.
