Kota Kinabalu: Sepanggar MP Mustapha Sakmud expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for appointing him as a Deputy Human Resources Minister.
He also thanked Anwar, who is also his President in Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), for the trust in representing the part as a Sabahan representative to serve for the federal government.
Mustapha said the appointment was an honour and a responsibility that he would take seriously to support the Unity Government’s efforts in bringing the nation forward.
“My main focus will be carrying out efficient human capital administration, ensuring for recovery of the national economy and improving workers welfare.
“I will help ensure that all efforts and initiatives taken under this Minis-try will be for the benefit of all Malaysians including Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.
Mustapha was among the seven deputy ministers from Sabah appointed by Anwar under the unity government.
Other Sabah MPs to be picked as deputy ministers were Datuk Siti Aminah Aching (Plantation and Commodities Ministry), Datuk Mohamad Alamin (Foreign Ministry), Datuk Arthur Kurup (Science Technology and Innovation Ministry), Chan Foong Hin (Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry), Khairul Firdaus Akbarkhan (Tourism, Culture Ministry) and Datuk Yusof Apdal (Higher Education Ministry).
Pakatan Harapan’s Mustapha won the Sepanggar Parlimentary seat with a majority of 7,042 votes in the recent elections.
