New stadiums for Aceh, N Sumatra
MEDAN: The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry has assured that it will build a new stadium in North Sumatra to meet the needs of the National Sports Week (PON) in 2024 (pic).

“At least in the next two or three months, a stadium construction in North Sumatra, precisely in Sena village, Batang Kuis sub-district, Deli Serdang, can be carried out. In addition to North Sumatra, one stadium will also be built in Aceh,” the ministry’s director of strategic infrastructure Essy Asiah said during a focus group discussion (FGD) on “North Sumatra and Aceh’s Strategy to Improve Sports Achievement and Regional Economic Revival,” which was held  Friday.

Asiah said that the ministry is waiting for a presidential regulation regarding the stadium construction. However, it has been confirmed that there will be no new presidential regulation, but the Ministry can use Presidential Regulation No. 120/2022 on special assignments in the context of accelerating infrastructure development.

“The matter of the stadium design was also a problem to the construction. However, it was agreed that (the stadium construction) in North Sumatra will use a basic design, while the stadium design for Aceh is still being discussed,” she informed.
