Kota Kinabalu: The deadly landslide in Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor, last Friday, in which 24 people died and nine others are still missing has shifted the attention to other spots nationwide where similar disasters may be looming.

One such potential danger is visible to thousands who ply the road fronting the 80-unit apartment blocks in Chanyai Villa, Likas, where a portion of the hill behind had collapsed with no apparent remedial measures effected to mitigate danger.

“We are gravely concerned as there have been two landslides at that spot since a year ago on part of the slope.
“It is visible to everyone passing the Old Tuaran road from Kota Kinabalu towards the Kampung Likas intersection traffic lights. Yet no action has been taken,” said Anita, who has been staying there for more than 20  years.

Another resident who requested anonymity said following the more recent landslide after incessant rain, residents complained to the Chanyai Villa housing management but nothing happened.    “It seems the management is not able to do anything,” he said, hoping  the authorities concerned would swing into action.
