Driver killed in Sandakan crash

SANDAKAN: A 40-year-old driver was killed after his Ford Ranger vehicle skidded and rammed into a heavy earthmoving machine on Jalan Buli Sim Sim, here, early Wednesday.

District Police Chief ACP Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said initial investigation showed the victim was heading home in Mile 1.5 from the city centre when the incident occurred at 6.30am.

“When he arrived in front of Taman Grandview, the victim lost control of the 4WD, swerved to the left of the road and crashed into the excavator parked by the roadside,” he said.

The victim died at the scene of serious injuries and his body was sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for an autopsy.
