25 holidaymakers stuck in Kota Belud flood rescued

Kota Kinabalu: Twenty-five holidaymakers faced an anxious moment when they were caught in a flood at the Polumung resort, Kampung Melankpa Baru, Kota Belud, yesterday.

The five male and 20 female holidaymakers were stuck after the road was flooded and vehicles could not pass through in the 6pm incident.

The Fire and Rescue Department said 10 rescuers from the Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station were rushed to the location.

"The operation to remove the victims from the area was carried out using the hauling system. All the 25 victims were removed safely by the fire brigade and placed temporarily in a nearby homestay, in addition to some being taken in by their families," the department said in a statement.

The flooodwater was receding but six vehicles belonging to the victims were still stuck, said the department.
