Contractor charged with keeping stolen tools
Lau was also charged with taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act (DDA).
Kota Kinabalu: A contractor was charged in the Magistrate’s Court Friday with keeping stolen tools.

Lau Wui Mun, 44, claimed trial to the charge before High Court Senior Assistant Registrar Mohammad Azeem Mohd Ridzo, who sat as a magistrate.

Lau was accused of keeping a stolen welding kit and wood sander machines at 12.50pm on Dec 19, in a house at Kg Sarapung, Jalan Tambunan-Penampang, Penampang.

The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or a fine or both, on conviction.

Lau was also charged with taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act (DDA).

However, no plea was taken from him while waiting for the chemist’s reports.

The prosecution proposed bail at RM5,000 in two sureties.

Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, representing Lau, applied for a lower bail.

The court set Jan 30 and Jan 27 for mention of the first and second count, respectively.

Lau was released on a bail of RM3,000 in two sureties.

In another case, four people were penalised for committing drug-related offences.

Hisham Ali and Daniel Carl pleaded guilty to having syabu weighing 0.24gm and 0.01gm, respectively on Sept 39 in Inanam and on Oct 14 in Penampang.

Hisham was ordered to pay a fine of RM2,700 or 11 months’ jail while Daniel was sentenced to 10 months’ jail.

They were charged under Section 12 (2) of the DDA 1952 which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both on conviction.

Meanwhile, Chong Jin Sien and Hasan Bakri admitted to taking syabu here in September.

Chong was fined RM2,000 or six months’ jail while Hasan was jailed for two months and fined RM1,800 or five months’ jail.

Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the DDA provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail on conviction.
