Kota Kinabalu: In a rare first such case in Malaysia, four former secondary students in Kota Belud sued a teacher, the Government, Education Minister and two others for refusal of the teacher to teach them English five years ago, causing them to fare badly in their SPM exam.

The four were Siti Nafirah Siman, 22, Rusiah Sabdarin, Nur Natasha Allisya Hamali and Calvina Angayung. Siti Nafirah had filed the suit separately with the other three.

They named the teacher Mohd Jainal Jamrin (Mr JJ), Hj Suid Hj Hanapi (in his capacity as Principal of the SMK Taun Gusi), Director General of Education Malaysia, Minister of Education Malaysia and Government of Malaysia, as the first, second, third, fourth and fifth defendants, respectively.
