Kota Kinabalu: Just as the year came to an end, the State witnessed one of the worst effects of the annual king tide phenomenon.On Dec 24, some 500 people in Kampung Forest, Sandakan, were left homeless after 70 stilt houses were destroyed by the king tide.
The strong waves also hit some houses at Jambatan 5, Kampung Tinosa 2, Sandakan, although no damage and casualties were reported.
