RANAU: A concrete bridge in Kg Mohimboyon here was damaged by flood following heavy rain on Monday.
Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief, Ridwan Mohd Taib, said the incident happened at about 5pm in the village, about 13 km from the station.
He said Fire and Rescue personnel were present at the scene to monitor the situation and set up barricade in order to ensure safety of motorists and the public.
“We received a call from the public that the main concrete bridge in the village collapsed due to flood.
“The Fire Brigade inspected the scene of the incident and installed a barricade so that the villagers could not pass through it,” he said.
Ridwan reminded the villagers and other motorists to refrain from passing through that area, and use other alternative routes instead.
Meanwhile, the Road Transport Department (JKR) Ranau, when contacted stated the road concerned is not under the jurisdiction of the local JKR.
The new Ranau JKR in-charge, Alvonna Farhanah said the road is not under the supervision of JKR, however, her office would help provide comments or technical advice if needed.
As a result of the incident, hundreds of people were unable to resume their daily routine and school children and teachers at the nearby SK Mohimboyon were forced to begin their new schooling session through study from home (PDPR).
