Kota Kinabalu: Former State coaches and players have been included in the panel prepared by Sabah Football Association (Safa) to select players for their President Cup and Youth Cup squads in the coming season.
Jelius Ating, Justin Ganai, Burhan Ajui, Matlan Marjan, Dzulfaizal Ag Anak, Zallius Robert, Ledy Malantang and Jasrih Jabirin are the names released by the State footballing body on Wednesday.
Executive secretary David Wisom said they are among the most qualified and experienced coaches in the State.
“Their inclusion is to ensure that the best available talents are selected.
“Our target is not just preparing the players to compete for the two tournaments next year but also as part of Safa’s long-term plan to develop the sport in the State,” he said.
Meanwhile, the selection sessions to be held over eight days in all eight zones throughout the State will begin with the South West Coast zone at the Beaufort Sports Complex tomorrow (January 6-7).
The next stop is the Upper Interior zone to be held in Keningau at the prison field and Keningau Teachers Training Institute field on January 8 followed by the South East Coast zone at the Tawau Stadium (January 9), North East Coast zone at the Sandakan Sports Complex (January 10), Central zone at Telupid town field and SMK Telupid (January 11), North West Coast zone at the Kota Marudu District Council field and SMK Bandau (January 12), East West Coast zone at Tuaran Selupu Field and Tuaran Agricultural Field (January 13) before concluding at the Sukma field here in Likas for the West Coast zone on January 14.
