Warisan reps won’t attend today's special assembly sitting, says Shafie
Shafie Apdal says Warisan supports the two bills that will be tabled today despite the absence of his party’s assemblymen.
PETALING JAYA: Warisan assemblymen will not be attending the Sabah state assembly’s special sitting today, says party president Shafie Apdal.

In a statement, Shafie said there was a need to establish a special committee to decide on the unity state government proposed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Despite not attending the sitting, he said, Warisan supported the two bills set to be tabled today – the Gas Supply Bill 2023 and the Energy Commission Bill 2023

He said the bills are in line with the party’s efforts to fully implement the 1963 Malaysia Agreement (MA63).

“I am confident these two bills will be approved because they only need a simple majority,” he said.

Shafie also said Warisan fully supported Anwar’s proposal for a unity state government in Sabah, following the political turmoil over the past week.

Earlier today, Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin declared his support for Anwar’s proposal, saying a unity government will be able to stabilise the political situation in the state.

Bung also said most of the Umno assemblymen were unable to attend today’s state assembly sitting because they had to leave for Kuala Lumpur to attend the party’s general assembly, but stated their support for the bills.

Last night, Anwar gave his blessings to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Hajiji Noor to continue as chief minister.

His endorsement came after talks with leaders of Sabah Barisan Nasional-Umno, Warisan and Hajiji following days of political wrangling brought about by Sabah Umno assemblymen withdrawing support from Hajiji as chief minister.
