Council urges Ranau folks to keep clean following road woes
Garbage piling up in Ranau.
RANAU: The public is urged to cooperate and not to worsen the cleanliness situation in the current floods by throwing garbage in the Ranau and Kundasang town areas.

Ranau District Council (MDR) Executive Officer, Jupirin Haji Ruhimin (pic), said his side is currently facing problems and challenges in bringing garbage trucks (compactors) to the landfill site after the main road near Riverside Mart was cut off since last Wednesday.

“The main challenge in the current situation where the bridge crossing the Takurik River can only be passed by vehicles with a capacity of 5 tonnes, while the MDR compactor lorry has a capacity of 8 tons without a load.

“The Public Works Department (JKR) has prepared a detour across Sungai Takurik, but the next challenge is that compactor trucks cannot pass through Jalan Sinarut Bar  -Tagudon Baru because it is obstructed by low electric cables that cross the road in that area.

“Besides that, the compactor lorry also cannot pass through the road that has been installed with an animal barrier fence at the border of Kg Sinarut Baru and Kg Tagudon Baru,” he said on Saturday.

Jupirin explained that, for a while, the MDR had to use several small trucks with a very limited load to gradually reduce the problem of piles of garbage in the area, especially the towns of Ranau and Kundasang.

“MDR trucks only operate between 3am and 6am because the traffic situation starts to get busy after that.

“Towards that end, the public is expected to understand this situation and be patient for a while,” said Jupirin.

Jupirin suggested that residents practice recycling waste materials for their own use, and process food waste or perishable materials into compost and so on.

To prevent the occurrence of garbage piles in the town area, Jupirin urged people who have vehicles to send their own garbage to the landfill site.
