Kota Kinabalu: City Hall (DBKK) has taken the initiative and commitment to implement an Anti-Corruption Plan to curb power abuse and corruption.
The implementation for its wholly owned company, DBKK Holdings Sdn Bhd, is for a period of four years.
This followed the similar initiative carried out for Kota Kinabalu City Hall earlier.
There are seven divisions and 235 employees under DBKK Holdings and they have an important role to realise the vision and mission of City Hall, said Mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip during the launch of the Anti-Corruption Plan-DBKK Holdings Sdn Bhd 2021-2024 at the City Hall, here.
“The implementation of the Anti-Corruption Plan is significant to reflect the people’s hope of a corruption-free country with employees carrying out their daily tasks with more transparency, accountability and integrity,” said Noorliza.
She said this is because corruption is a critical issue that needs to be dealt with systematically and comprehensively because it can cause major damage and loss to a department or company.
She said various activities have been planned and implemented by DBKK Holdings, including integrity briefings, talks related to the effects of corruption, publication of anti-corruption printed materials and so on.
“This plan will be used as a guide towards producing employees who are free from corruption and misconduct.
“Corruption may occur without involving money, but through other means such as accepting donations, abusing power and so on,” she said.
She said the enforcement of Section 17A (corporate liability) Act 10 MACC 2009 (amendment) aims to promote responsibility and must be complied by the management.
Hence, she suggested the General Manager of DBKK Holdings assist the management in the decision-making to avoid losses or defects in the company.
She hoped the implementation of the plan will further strengthen the image and quality of DBKK Holdings to provide first class service to the community.
In addition of dealing with integrity and anti-corruption issues comprehensively, she said the plan also allows punitive actions to be taken against officers who deliberately cause leakage and wastage to company funds.
She called on all DBKK Holdings citizens, in carrying out their duties, to display a firm, courageous, fair attitude and be willing to take risks to ensure that integrity and governance are not compromised.
Also present were Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Sabah Director Datuk Kurunanthy Subbiah, DBKK Holdings Board Director Datuk Kevin How and City Hall Director General Junainah Abbie.
