Kota Kinabalu: Professor Dr Chong Khim Phin from the Faculty of Science and Natural Resources of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has been appointed as the new director for a two-year term.
Prof Chong was the former Research Management Centre Deputy Director of Strategic. He holds a PhD in Plant Science and a recipient of the Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) Award in 2020.
In a brief ceremony receiving his handover note from the former director, Prof Chong pledged to strengthen cultural exchanges between China and the Sabah communities reinforcing educational cooperation between China and the communities through Confucius Institute.
Prof Dr Chong thanked Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Hj. Mansur, the Vice-Chancellor of UMS for entrusting him for this important task. The Confucius Institute at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (CI@UMS) was launched on Dec 12, 2019.
The Confucius Institute UMS (CI@UMS) provides scope for people all over the world to learn the Chinese language and culture.
It’s on the platform of CIEF (Chinese International Education Foundation) for cultural exchanges between China and the world as well as bridge reinforcing educational cooperation between China and the rest of the world. The launch of CI@UMS in 2019 made history as the first Confucius Institute in East Malaysia.
