Assaulting delivery man:  E-hailing driver fined
Ngio then alighted from his car and hit Awang with a bamboo stick and drove off as the traffic light turned green.
Kota Kinabalu: An e-hailing driver was on Thursday fined RM2,000 or two months’ jail for assaulting a food delivery man, last year.

Ngio Teak Hooi, 43, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to causing hurt to one Awang Hishamuddin at 2pm on Aug 8, 2022, at Jalan Kolam, Luyang here.

The magistrate was informed by the prosecution that on the said day the complainant, Awang, was on his way to deliver food toward Jalan Lintas.

While at the traffic light of Jalan Kolam, Awang tried to move ahead of the line but was stuck as the car driven by Ngio was too close to the car next to him.

Awang tried to ask Ngio to make way but Ngio blocked Awang’s path causing the side mirror of his motorcycle to hit the side mirror of Ngio’s car.

Ngio then alighted from his car and hit Awang with a bamboo stick and drove off as the traffic light turned green.

Awang suffered bruises on the back of his body and right arm, the court heard.

Ngio was arrested by police on Aug 8, 2022 following a police report lodged by Awang, said the prosecution.

Ngio was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to one year or fine, or both, on conviction.

In another case, a 27-year-old labourer was jailed three months for having housebreaking tools.

Azmin Ruhito admitted to having two knives, wire cutter, geometric set, torchlight and a small screwdriver at 1.50pm on Jan 15 this year at Lorong Wawasan Plaza here.

The charge, under Section 18(e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance, carries a jail term of up to six months jail on conviction.
