Fire and Rescue personnel kept busy by fire, accident

LAHAD DATU: An accident and fire incident involving a block of quarters here kept the Fire and Rescue Department personnel busy from mid-afternoon to evening on Wednesday.

District Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Sumsoa Rashid, said his team first responded to a fire involving quarters at a plantation in Jalan Tungku.

Sumsoa said the team received a distressed call at 1.55pm and deployed a team of firefighters to the scene with the assistance from the Volunteer Firefighting teams. The scene was located about 35km away from the Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station.

“The fire was put under control at 3.11pm and the operation ended at 4.25pm after the team completely extinguished the fire as well as ensuring no other dangers at the scene.

“The quarters was 100 per cent destroyed but no casualty reported in the incident,” he said.

According to Sumsoa, the team later responded to an accident involving a Lexus and Saga FLX at a traffic light along Jalan Assam.

He said the team received a distressed call at 7.18pm and rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, the team discovered three victims had been taken out of the vehicle with the assistance of the public.

“Our team and medical officer provided initial treatment to all the victims before they were taken to Lahad Datu Hospital for further treatment,” he added.
