Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) is on a 24-hour standby to monitor the power situation in Kudat, Kota Marudu and Pitas districts following the flash floods that hit the areas since Wednesday.

Its Senior General Manager (Asset Management) Idris Mohd Noor said SESB had closed 22 substations in Pitas to maintain public safety.

The closure would affect the power supply to Kampung Bawang and several villages along Jalan Kinabungan in the district, he said in a statement, Friday.

Meanwhile, the supply to Kudat and Kota Marudu districts is still under control.

“SESB also ensures that all complaints received from consumers in affected areas will be dealt with properly once the situation is safe,” he said.

SESB has received many complaints since Thursday involving fallen trees and power lines and its team is working to attend to them.

However, he said works to restore the power supply were expected to be delayed due to flooded roads.

He said SESB would also need to take into account the safety factors and unfavourable weather.

Idris also reminded the public not to move or touch any fallen SESB cables to avoid electric shock.
