Kota Kinabalu: Jealousy is the motive behind the killing of a 62-year-old man whose body was found at an oil palm plantation in Tawau last Friday (13 Jan). SabahPolice Commissioner Datuk Idris Abdullah said the case was of personal nature and did not pose a threat to security.
“The victim’s wife was already charged in court with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
“We are in the process of gathering conclusive evidence for the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s reference,” he said, after a monthly police assembly at the Sabah Contingent Police Headquarters, Tuesday.
He told the public not to speculate and let police conduct investigations which results would be made known.
Earlier, Idris confirmed that eight Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) personnel, including four senior officers, were arrested for investigations in relation to the case that is being carried out by Bukit Aman.
A Senior Assistant Commissioner with a Datuk title were among those implicated in the stabbing death.
The victim, Nurman Bakaratu, was found beside his Perodua Myvi vehicle that was registered to an e-hailing service by a plantation worker.
His ex-wife, Nurima Juli, 33, who was charged at the Tawau Magistrate’s Court on Monday was reported to have been involved in a love triangle with one of the police officers remanded until Thursday.
Meanwhile, Kinabatangan Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) Chief, Insp. Burhan Masri made the Sabah force proud for being the first from over 150 departments nationwide to be awarded for outstanding performance.
“The success did not come rolling and it was not a lone effort. I would like to thank Kinabatangan Police Chief Supt Dzulbaharin Ismail and the Sabah Police Contingent for their ceaseless guidance.
“My mission is to turn JSPT into an extraordinary department even though it is relatively new since its inception in 2016,” he said when met.
Burhan’s described his job in investigating traffic collisions as subjective.
“I have solved two high profile cases but you cannot see matters that way. The cause and effect of traffic collisions does not depend on status.
“Investigations must be carried out in a neutral manner following proper procedures,” he said.
