SANDAKAN: A 34-year-old man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a child was jailed seven years by the Sessions Court, here, Friday.

Judge Zaini Fishir @ Fisal ordered the accused to serve the sentence  from the date of his arrest on Jan 20.

He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old  by touching her private part in his house at 8.10am on Jan 20, this year. The victim was brought back to the accused’s house and he took off the victim’s pants and subsequently hugged the victim from her back while touching her private part inside a room. Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provides for a maximum 20 years’ jail and also be liable to whipping, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor, Ng Juhn Tao prosecuted, while the accused was not represented.
