Kota Kinabalu: A 67-year-old farmer was charged with raping an underage girl.
Atib Bungong pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus, to the charge against him on Tuesday.
Atib is accused of raping the 14 years and nine months old girl at 2pm in October 2021 in the bushes by the riverside in Kg Merungin 1, Ranau.
The offence under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping, on conviction.
The court set March 7 this year for mention and Atib was ordered remanded further pending the date.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mas Izzaty Lokman appeared for the prosecution while Atib was not represented.
In another case, a Filipino was jailed three months for entering the State illegally.
Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz handed the sentence to Sabdana Sauna who pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
Sabdana was arrested on Jan 26 this year at the city area after failing to produce his identification document to the police.
The court ordered Sabdana to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.
After completing his jail sentence, Sabdana was also ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department for his biometric data to be recorded before deportation.
