850,000 teens benefit from programmes

PUTRAJAYA: About 850,000 teenagers nationwide have benefited from the education and skills development programmes (PPK) run by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN).

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said PPK was implemented at KafeTEEN Adolescent Centres, KafeTEEN School Club, mobile KafeTEEN and through outreach programmes.

Of the total, nearly 38,000 teenagers have benefited through reproductive health services, and some 20,000 teenagers have sought social counselling services at KafeTEEN Adolescent Centres.

“KafeTEEN has been implemented for 17 years since 2006, and I’m sure many teenagers have benefited from this programme,” she told reporters after the KafeTEEN Outreach Truck handover ceremony here Friday.

Currently, there are 18 KafeTEEN Adolescent Centres, which provide a space for teenagers to engage in healthy and beneficial activities, eight of which are located in LPPKN premises, eight in the Urban Transformation Centres and two are known as KafeTEEN Transit Centres.

On the KafeTEEN Outreach Truck, Nancy said it would provide mobile services to teenagers in various locations, including rural areas, adding that the programme aims to benefit 6,000 teenagers this year.
