Kuala Lumpur: The police have completed its investigation into allegations that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had slandered Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders by calling them “atheists” and “communists”.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim said the investigation papers were submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) last year.
“We are still waiting for further instructions from the deputy public prosecutor,” he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters here.
On Nov 10 last year, DAP Kuala Lumpur secretary Lim Lip Eng filed a police report against Hadi for allegedly making defamatory statements.
Lim accused Hadi of linking DAP to communism and atheism during a meeting in Temerloh, Pahang, stating that it was the fourth time the PAS leader had made such accusations since Parliament was dissolved on Oct 10.
Meanwhile, Azmi said the police are still in the process of completing their investigation into protests that were held at the Swedish and Dutch embassies last month.
He said the investigation papers are set to be submitted to the AGC on Wednesday, adding that 14 individuals were questioned in relation to the case.
Last month, Dang Wangi police said it was investigating the two gatherings that were held to protest the burning of the Quran in Sweden.
The protestors allegedly breached the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) after failing to inform the authorities of the planned gatherings.
Some 80 protesters had gathered in front of the Dutch embassy while an estimated 400 rallied in front of the Swedish embassy.
