MACC to quiz Muhyiddin over Bersatu's RM300mil, says report
Muhyiddin Yassin previously denied claims his government had misappropriated RM92.5 billion when he was the prime minister.
PETALING JAYA: Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to be called up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission as part of its probe into the party’s funds, reports the New Straits Times.

Citing sources, the report said a statement would be recorded from the former prime minister over the alleged RM300 million that Bersatu was said to have received as political funds from contractors who were awarded projects during his administration.

The source said that two Bersatu bank accounts with a total balance of RM40 million had been frozen by the anti-graft agency, adding that several Bersatu leaders – including the party’s treasurer – had been summoned to have their statements recorded.

The source added that almost all the donors who contributed to the party’s accounts were contractors who were awarded government contracts during Muhyiddin’s premiership, which ran from March 2020 to August 2021.

On Feb 1, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the agency froze Bersatu’s accounts in January.

It is understood that the accounts were frozen in connection with an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of billions of ringgit meant for Covid-19 stimulus packages.

Muhyiddin had previously denied claims his government had misappropriated RM92.5 billion when he was the prime minister, adding that he was confident MACC would clear him of any wrongdoing.

He did not rule out the possibility that the allegations against Bersatu were being made by the government so that legal action would be taken against the party and weaken it ahead of the six state elections set for this year.
