The Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) has been urged to help Sabah in addressing any skill gaps and workforce challenges, especially involving locals so that the State can develop, attract and retain the best talent and skills.

Making the call, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said efforts to train and improve the local workforce in parallel with the job market’s needs are among the Government’s agenda to empower the State’s human capital.

“Through the training and skill improvement programmes provided by HRD Corp to the existing workforce, they can help strengthen the development of human capital,” he said during a courtesy call by an HRD Corp delegation led by its Chief Executive Datuk Shahul Dawood at Menara Kinabalu, Kota Kinabalu, on Feb 10. During the visit, Hajiji was briefed by Shahul regarding the proposed collaboration programme between HRD Corp and the State Government in line with the aspirations of Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ). HRD Corp, formerly known as HRDF, is a statutory body under the Human Resources Ministry.

It is responsible for driving the talent development aspirations of employees through the collection of levies from employers and the funding of training and development programmes for the Malaysian workforce. HRD Corp has set foot in Sabah since 1998 and currently, a total of 4,571 employers in the State have registered with the agency.
