Bringing China tourists via chartered flights
Liaw said he prefers to organise chartered flights from China’s second-tier cities like Hangzhou from the latter months of this year, after gauging the viability of the demand, to avoid competing with low-cost airlines like AirAsia serving Southern China’s top-tier cities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah has benefited much from chartered flights initiated by its enterprising travel agencies in the past that boosted tourist arrivals over the pre-Covid pandemic years.

Travel agencies are considering such chartered flights again with possible direct link to Tawau for demand Semporna attractions for tourists from China, seen arriving in smaller groups recently.

This may be viable only after the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China starts to issue visas to local travellers for travel agents to offer China-bound flight products to fill up chartered flights.
