Muhyiddin: Wan Saiful no longer Bersatu info chief, but doesn't mean he's guilty
Muhyiddin Yassin (left) says he met Wan Saiful Wan Jan earlier today to discuss his request to step down as Bersatu information chief.
Kuala Lumpur: Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has accepted Wan Saiful Wan Jan’s resignation as the party’s information chief.

“I met with Wan Saiful earlier today and I agreed to accept his resignation, which will be effective today,” he told reporters at Parliament.

Muhyiddin maintained this move was not because Wan Saiful was guilty, but that it was to set a standard since the Tasek Gelugor MP had court charges brought against him.

Yesterday, Wan Saiful was charged with accepting a RM6.9 million bribe and soliciting an unspecified amount over a RM232 million road project linked to the Jana Wibawa programme.

Muhyiddin said a new information chief will be appointed soon.

Earlier, Wan Saiful had said he had asked Bersatu to allow him to step down as the party’s information chief following his corruption charges.

He said he believed it would prove Perikatan Nasional “walked the talk” about integrity and combating corruption.

He also said he will continue to help the party in the upcoming state elections in any possible way, and reiterated that the charges brought against him were politically motivated.
