Police, CyberSecurity Malaysia to probe MySejahtera data leak involving ‘super admin’
Communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil says he ordered CyberSecurity Malaysia to conduct an investigation following the release of the Auditor-General’s Report.
PETALING JAYA: The police and CyberSecurity Malaysia will probe the purported MySejahtera data leak that involved a “super admin” account, says communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil.

This comes a week after the Auditor-General’s Report 2021 Series 2 found that the account had downloaded three million information sets through various IP addresses.

Fahmi said he had ordered CyberSecurity Malaysia to conduct an investigation following the release of the Auditor-General’s Report, while the police will initiate its own probe.

“This is the data leakage which allegedly involved the super admin access to the MySejahtera app. This is very important and I know many are worried about this data leak,” he said in a press conference at Parliament.

The Auditor-General’s Report 2021 Series 2 had raised several questions about the records stored in MySejahtera. It also said there were 1.12 million attacks on the application as at Oct 27, 2021, though it did not state whether these were successful or not.

Fahmi also confirmed that the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)will get new chairmen by next week.

This comes after the Malaysian Film Producers Association (PFM) urged Fahmi to expedite the appointment of a new Finas chairman and board members.

Last December, former Finas chairman Zurainah Musa confirmed that her tenure had been shortened by the communications and digital ministry.

Meanwhile, Fahmi told the Dewan Rakyat that there was a need for funds to be set aside to beef up cybersecurity in the country in tackling data leaks.

He hoped that Anwar Ibrahim would announce a significant amount of allocation for cybersecurity as the prime minister tables Budget 2023 tomorrow.
