Kota Kinabalu: A Land and Survey Department enforcement unit confiscated machinery used in illegal sand dredging activities at the Kampung Barantian River in Kalabakan, Tawau, Thursday, but the workers managed to flee.

The department's Director, Datuk Bernard Liew Chau Min, said the 8.20 am raid was carried out based on intelligence received from relevant government agencies.
