Apologise for claiming Zahid behind Wan Saiful's court charges, Muhyiddin and Azmin told
BN wants PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin (centre) and PN information chief Azmin Ali (right) to retract the statements they made against its chairman, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin and its information chief Azmin Ali have been served a letter of demand for purportedly alleging that Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is behind the court charges against PN’s Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

In a statement, Barisan Nasional (BN) said Muhyiddin had made the claim and that Azmin had backed the Bersatu president’s allegation.

The coalition demanded the two PN leaders apologise and retract their remarks against Zahid, who is the BN chairman and Umno president.

“Zahid has never abused his position to charge PN leaders. The deputy prime minister’s focus is on managing the nation’s affairs,” its communications division said in a statement.

According to Sinar Harian, Muhyiddin had alleged on Feb 21 that Zahid was behind the charges brought against Bersatu leaders.

Aside from Wan Saiful, Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad had been charged with soliciting and accepting bribes in relation to the Jana Wibawa programme.

Muhyiddin had claimed the charges were part of BN and Pakatan Harapan’s efforts to immobilise Bersatu and PN after its strong showing in the 15th general election.

Similarly, Azmin accused Putrajaya of attempting to cover up its weaknesses by putting pressure on PN, according to Agenda Daily.

BN claimed that the remarks made by Muhyiddin and Azmin were merely excuses aimed at covering up corruption in PN, saying the finger-pointing was a “normal” move for them.

“These wild accusations cannot be allowed to continue,” the coalition added.
