Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was fined a total of RM2,500 on Monday on two counts of disposing of stolen items and failing to furnish his MyKad to police.
AgKu Jufaiz Abd Gani, 23, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to committing the offences.
On the first count, Jufaiz was ordered to pay a fine of RM2,000 or two months in jail for assisting in disposing of two stolen badminton rackets, worth RM1,498 belonging to Hurricane Sports Enterprise in February this year in front of the Harapan Menang Sdn Bhd here.
The court heard from the prosecution that Jufaiz sold the rackets to a shop worker.
On the second count, Jufaiz was fined RM500 or two weeks in jail for failing to produce his identification document when checked by the police at 2.30pm on Feb 11, this year by the roadside in Inanam.
Prosecutor Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik told the court that Jufaiz, who was earlier handed to police for another offence, failed to furnish his MyKad when asked by the police.
Jufaiz claimed that he did not bring the document with him. Jufaiz’s counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence requested a lenient sentence for his client.
The first count under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both on conviction, while the second count, under Section 25(1)(n) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 provides for a jail term of up to three years or a fine or both on conviction.
In another case, two motorists were each jailed one day and fined RM10,000 or three months in jail for drink driving.
Raimon Seminggu, 36, and Chai Shen Wee, 28, pleaded guilty separately to committing the offence against them.
Raimon admitted to committing the offence at 12.55am, on Sept 15, 2022 at Jalan Pintas, Kopungit here.
Chai pleaded guilty to committing the offence at 2.45am on Jan 28, this year at KM1 Jalan Tuaran.
The charge under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport (Amendment) Act 2020, which provides for a jail term of up to two years and a fine between RM10,000 and RM30,000 and lost qualification from holding or getting a driving licence for not less than two years from the date of conviction.
The court also ordered Raimon’s and Chai’s driving licences to be suspended for two years.
