PUTATAN: Deputy Chief Minister III and Public Works Minister Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya welcomed the RM20 billion allocation to complete the Pan Borneo Sabah and Sarawak highway announced during the tabling of the 2023 Budget on Friday by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“As Sabah Public Works Minister, I was very interested in the RM20 billion so as to complete the Pan Borneo highway in Sabah and Sarawak.
“We know in Sarawak the Pan Borneo highway is almost ready, so phase one in Sabah is the one that needs allocation for us to complete is very welcome,” he said after officiating the Housing Unity Carnival Putatan District and Gerak Rahmah Community Unity Carnival: Let’s Get Healthy Putatan District.
Shahelmey also lauded the Federal Government’s efforts to upgrade poor schools in Malaysia and that there was a to speed up repairs on poor schools in Sabah.
“As we know in Sabah there are more than 400 schools in poor condition and the allocation was something we welcome,” he said.
He also welcomed efforts to improve dilapidated health clinics, especially in Sabah.
Commenting on the Putatan District Housing Unity Carnival and the Gerak Rahmah Community Unity Carnival Dewan Sri Putatan on Saturday, Shahelmey said, Putatan was a district with many residents from housing estates and villages the programme emphasised understanding and unity in society.
“This programme coincides with the concept of Madani Malaysia emphasised by the Prime Minister based on the pillars of sustainability, well-being, creativity, respect, confidence and courtesy.
“Therefore, unity is an important agenda as a catalyst for a sustainable and prosperous country that comes through the building of a compassionate community involving government agencies, private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), families and communities,” he said.
