Burglary: Prisoner jailed three years 
Azni committed the offence along with two accomplices still at large.
Kota Kinabalu: A 46-year-old man, currently serving jail sentence in prison, was on Tuesday sentenced to three years’ jail for burglary.

Mohd Azni Sarni pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to breaking into a house at Taman Megah Kobusak, Penampang, to steal, at 11.pm on Nov 9, 2022.

Azni committed the offence along with two accomplices still at large.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik told the court that the house owner realised his house was being broken into by three unknown men and shouted for help from the neighbour but the three fled through the back fence.

The complainant then found a house key and a car key missing from his house.

Azni was arrested by police after his fingerprints were extracted from the house, said the prosecution.

He was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 14 years and liability of a fine on conviction.

Counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence  requested a lower sentence for Azni on the ground that he is married with four children and that he is currently serving 12 months in jail for a similar offence.

The court ordered Azni to serve the sentence consecutively with his present jail term.

In another case, a 29-year-old woman was fined RM1,500 or jailed two months for having gambling paraphernalia.

Felicika Sitah Sikat admitted to buying two lottery tickets without licence at 3.30pm on Sept 15, last year at Kolombong, Inanam.

The court was informed by the prosecution that Felicika was arrested by police for committing the offence and seized paraphernalia used in the activity comprising a handphone, a mobile printer, two lottery tickets and RM391 cash.

The offence under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act carries a jail term of up to six months, or a fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.

The court ordered the seized cash money to be forfeited.
