Local held in Tawau for having Syabu
Jasmin said the suspect along with the items were taken to the District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJND) for further action and the case was investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the same act for being positive for drugs.
TAWAU: Police arrested a local with 7.58gm of Syabu after a struggle at the garbage dump area, Bukit Gemok, during Ops Tapis, Monday.

Jasmin Hussin, said the suspect was arrested after he was seen acting suspiciously in the area and tried to escape.

According to him, the suspect acted aggressively and put up a struggle with policemen before the man was subdued and arrested.

“During a body search, the suspect handed over a bag he was holding and the police found eight transparent plastic packets of various sizes containing chunks of clear crystal substance suspected to be syabu with an estimated weight of 7.58gm,” he said.

Jasmin said the suspect along with the items were taken to the District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJND) for further action and the case was investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the same act for being positive for drugs.

Also during the operation, a team from the Bombalai Police Station together with officers and members from the District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJND) IPD Tawau, arrested 14 individuals, believed to be addicts aged between 23 and 62 years old.

According to him, the arrests were the result of raids and inspections in several ‘hotspot’ areas villages, garbage disposal areas, and locations believed to be used for drug distribution and abuse activities.

“In addition, 17 civilians and three motorcycles were checked during the Special Screening OP,” he said.

Jasmin said that the success was one of the efforts of the Tawau IPD, particularly the Bombalai Police Station, in dealing with the problem of drug abuse in the district, and at the same time increase the public’s trust in the Tawau PDRM.
