TAWAU: A group of secondary school students in full uniform were fined when they were caught riding recklessly and loitering at the Airport Lama, Jalan Utara, here, Wednesday. Police also seized 14 motorcycles, according to Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin.
A total of 13 traffic summonses were issued for various offences including having no driving licence, no side mirror, no vehicle plat number and other offences.
He said the students’ parents and guardians were also summoned to the Tawau police station to aid investigations.
He said police conducted traffic enforcement around the Old Airport area in response to public concerns about a group of youths. He reminded parents to always keep an eye on their children’s activities, particularly after school.
“It’s critical that these children don’t get involved in risky behaviours that imperil their life and the lives of others,” he said.
