GL Oh: Four Sabahans will be representing the country at the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships 2023 in Torun, Poland from March 25-31.
The foursome is led by Aliudin Jumaat, who had won the silver medal twice in the world meet.
He made the podium in the decathlon event in his debut appearance in Turin, Italy 10 years ago and won his second medal in the 60m hurdles in Daegu, South Korea three years later.
He also competed three more times in the competition and managed to finish fourth in the decathlon in Perth, Australia (2016), 11th in the decathlon in Malaga, Spain (2018) and seventh in the 100m hurdles in Tampere, Finland (2022).
This time he will only be competing in the 60m hurdles in the men’s 65-69 category and he is aiming for a top four finish.
The other members of the team are Shamry Mohd Ali, Bernice Lau Kam Mun and Joan Goh Penn Nee.
All three are hoping to achieve better results than they did in previous appearances.
Shamry will be taking part in the 60m sprint and 60m hurdles (men’s 50-54). He finished seventh twice in the 110m hurdles in 2016 and 60m hurdles in 2017.
Bernice is to compete in the 60m and 60m hurdles (women’s 45-49). In 2016, she finished seventh in the long jump and also in seventh place in the same event in 2017 as well as a fifth place finish in the 60m, while 10km road race (women’s 45-49) runner Joan made the top 20 in 2018 and improved her position to 13th place in 2022.
