Duo charged with disposing of stolen Nissan Navara

Kota Kinabalu: Two unemployed men were charged in the Magistrate’s Court, here, with disposing of a stolen four-wheel vehicle worth RM160,000.

Ali Rosli Baru, 36, and Mohd Raqib Abdul Karim, 39, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to disposing of a stolen black Nissan Navara at Taman Nelly, Lorong Buah Pala, Inanam between 7am and 8am on March 8.

The court heard from the prosecution that the gadget was reported stolen from the display room of a store at Imago shopping mall on March 10.

Unrepresented, Emran requested for a lenient sentence and told the court that he has a nine-month-old child.

He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between six months and five years and liability of a fine, on conviction.

Meanwhile, the case of a bartender charged with drug trafficking has been transferred to the High Court.

Jessica made the order against Chong Jia Zhen following an application by the prosecution for the case to be transferred to the High Court.

Chong, 22, allegedly trafficked 787.7gm of syabu at 1.30am on Oct 26, 2022 in a unit at Beverly Hills Phase 3, Penampang.

The charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes.

Chong, who was represented by counsel Ram Singh, was ordered to be further remanded as the charge against him had no provision for bail.
