Kota Kinabalu: The proposed establishment of a Halal Industry Development Council in Sabah and Sarawak will greatly benefit small and medium-sized industries from the fishing communities and entrepreneurs.Sabah Fisheries and Fishery Development Corporation (Ko-Nelayan) Chairman, Kong Soon Choi (pic) said the central government needs to look into the matter to enable the state government to issue halal licences that make it easier for all levels of halal product operators in Sabah and Sarawak to apply.
“I see the need for the Central Government to speed up the devolution of powers to the governments of Sabah and Sarawak to issue halal licences themselves,” he said this in response to Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan’s recommendation that the government in Borneo be empowered to issue halal licences on Monday.
