Having drugs: Man jailed
Mohd Hafieszul Mohd Adnin was discharged and acquitted from the charge by Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz, after ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against Mohd Hafieszul.
Kota Kinabalu: A 36-year-old man was jailed 10 years plus 10 strokes of the cane for having 37.68gm of syabu.

Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan handed the sentence to Awang Suhaimi Sulaiman who changed his plea to guilty to the charge against him.

Awang Suhaimi had in possession of the drug at 9.25am on Nov 7, 2021 in front of a house in Kg Biau Bongawan, Papar.

The offence, under Section 39A(2)(r ) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, carries a jail term of between five years and life imprisonment, and whipping of at least 10 strokes of the cane, on conviction.

The court ordered Awang Suhaimi to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Dacia Jane Romanus appeared for the prosecution while Awang Suhaimi was not represented.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man was freed from a charge of having 33.6gm of syabu without his defence being called.

Mohd Hafieszul Mohd Adnin was discharged and acquitted from the charge by Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz, after ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against Mohd Hafieszul.

Mohd Hafieszul was accused of having the drug at 12.33am on Nov 29, 2020 at a bus stop in Jalan Kelamauh, Sipitang.

The prosecution had called eight witnesses during the hearing.

Dpp Faezah Jafry prosecuted the case while counsel Amirul Amin defended Mohd Hafieszul.
