Man is jailed for having stolen MyKad

Kota Kinabalu: A 36-year-old man currently serving jail sentence, was on Friday sentenced to eight month’s jail for having a stolen MyKad.

Chong Yie Yee, a tow truck worker pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to keeping the stolen document belonging to Samuel Jonathan at 1am on Oct 26, 2022 at Kg Air here.

The offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, on conviction.

Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence requested a lenient jail sentence to be run concurrently from his present jail term which he served for another offence.

Jessica ordered Chong to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest and concurrently with his present jail term.

In another case, a fisherman was jailed six months for having a stolen handphone.

Nelson Mohd Ali pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to having a stolen Iphone 7 belonging to Ong Hing Ling at 4.10pm on March 12, this year at the roadside of Tun Fuad Stephens, near the general market here.

Nelson’s case came up for pre-trial case management on Friday but informed the court that he wished to change his plea to guilty.

Nelson, who was represented by duty counsel Lim, applied for a lenient sentence and to be run from the date of his arrest as he is married with three children and was the sole breadwinner.

The prosecution applied for an adequate sentence.

The court ordered Nelson to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.
