There’s conspiracy to get Najib pardoned, claims Bersatu man
Former prime minister Najib Razak is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence after he was convicted of criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering.
Kuala Lumpur: Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has claimed that there is a conspiracy to free incarcerated former prime minister Najib Razak through a royal pardon.

Wan Fayhsal said the majority of the people did not want to see Najib freed from prison and disagreed with any effort to expedite his release.

“It’s clear that there’s a concerted attempt to get Najib pardoned,” he told reporters outside the Dang Wangi district police headquarters here today.

Earlier, Bersatu Youth lodged a police report against the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for purportedly leaking details of its investigation into Justice Nazlan Ghazali.

The report, filed by Bersatu Youth assistant secretary Faiz Rahmad, alleged that the MACC had leaked information to law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said.

It also claimed that details were then disseminated to the media to give the impression that Nazlan had handed down an unfair judgment against Najib in the SRC International case.

Azalina had told the Dewan Rakyat on Feb 23 that the MACC’s report, pertaining to its probe into Nazlan’s alleged breach of the Judges’ Code of Ethics 2009 when presiding over Najib’s SRC trial in the High Court, had been submitted to the chief justice.

Wan Fayhsal also lashed out at Pakatan Harapan (PH) for not having a clear stance on the matter.

“Is PH afraid of (Umno president) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi? Are they willing to play a political game out of fear that the government will crumble if they don’t follow Umno?”

He said the government should be reminded that Najib’s 1MDB trial was ongoing, adding that talk of a pardon should only occur once the trial was over.

Last week, Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki confirmed that the party had asked the King to consider granting Najib a royal pardon.

Najib is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence after he was convicted of criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering involving RM42 million belonging to SRC.
